AMOT XTS-W
bearing condition monitoring system

AMOT's XTS-W bearing condition monitoring system is a predictive maintenance warning system. We like to say that the "X" in XTS-W stands for x-ray vision, because in the most simple terms that is what the AMOT XTS-W condition monitoring system accomplishes: high precision sensors are able to sense or "see" the bearing without opening the engine. The system assesses the rate of degradation of the bearing, allowing appropriate corrective action to be taken, thus avoiding consequent damage, costly repairs and loss of revenue. The system alleviates unnecessary opening up any bearings on the crank shaft and cross head for visual inspection which is costly in manpower, spare parts and for class surveys.

Designed for two-stroke engines, the unique system provides real-time early warning of bearing wear, providing vessel operators advance warning of potential bearing-related engine failures, as well as the necessary data related to the engine's condition required for cost-effective maintenance planning. Because the XTS-W is predictive, overhauls can then be planned months in advance minimizing disruption to service schedules. By avoiding unnecessary opening of engines and bearings, it also minimizes the exposure of ship personnel to potentially hazardous situations, offering a safer working environment on board.

The XTS-W is approved by leading diesel engine manufacturer MAN B&W as the best bearing condition monitoring system for two-stroke engines, and is the only product this leader has approved for detecting bearing wear. The system has clear advantages over other techniques, such as the temperature control monitoring and oil mist detection techniques that allow shutdown before failure. The XTS-W detects wear of main, big end and crosshead bearings before steel-on-steel contact occurs and can be a valuable component of the Planned Maintenance Program provided by Classification Societies.

The AMOT XTS-W can be easily installed on new builds or retrofitted on ships with a two-stroke slow speed engine. Installation can be done in only 8 to 10 hours for a 6 to 8 cylinder engine without interrupting the vessel's schedule.

Main Features
  • Monitors cross-head, crank-pin and main bearing condition
  • Reduces survey and maintenance costs
  • Early warnings avoid suddent damages
  • No flase alarms
  • Reliable system
How it Works

The concept of the technology incorporated in the XTS-W is based on linear bearing wear instrumentation and is the most cost-effective solution for operators. Two instruments in each cylinder unit detect wear of main, big end and crosshead bearings before steel-on-steel contact occurs.

The XTS-W continually measures the condition of the bearing, offering an intuitive and reliable definitive measuring device. The full life potential of the bearing can be assessed and in-service time maximized, and the system includes an alarm that can easily incorporated into the vessel's alarm system. The XTS-W has been fully tested and is an established product, considered to be the industry standard.
